Lower Price Lake was filled in by the 1983 rock slide, leaving Upper Price Lake, now known as Price Lake.

This picturesque High Sierra/Carson Range lake in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest of Nevada is filled by snowmelt and has been dammed for a reservoir of Ophir Creek by several agencies and interests over the last 150 years starting with the Ophir Mining Company's mill at the mouth of the river In 1861. After the Comstock Mines were abandoned, W. E. Price's sawmill took over operations. Price lake stands 700 feet above Rock Lake.

Some of Price Lake's water is diverted two miles due south to conflude with Franktown Creek before it begins its descent to Washoe Lake.
