Dedicated to Washoe County's continued excellence as a world-leader in the treatment of animals.
About Our Grassroots Movement & How To Donate.

An authentic grassroots coalition of individuals, organizations and businesses dedicated to bringing about change to Washoe County by banning the sales of dogs, cats and rabbits in retail stores.

Become a voice for the voiceless. Donate to a Puppy Mill Free Reno/Sparks/Washoe now.

Started on 7/7/13, the day after San Diego passed a ban on selling animals in retail stores (See Mostly Dogs blog, 7/13), Puppy Mill Free Reno/Sparks/Washoe is a group of citizens and organizations committed to the single issue of ending cruel and unhealthy puppy, kitty and rabbit mill retail sales in Washoe County and require all animals sold in retail stores to be from local, non-profit, accredited adoption agencies or from reputable [breed] Club of America breeders.

Founding Organizer Billy Howard is a graduate ("With Honors") of the Reno Citizens Institute as well as the Washoe County Engaged Leadership Academy. Billy was appointed by the Reno City Council to sit on the Ward 2 South Neighborhood Advisory Committee to which the members elected him Chair.

Billy is the founding organizer of Climbing For Kitties, an athletic fundraising event for Feline Rescue of Northern Nevada (he also develops their website).

Billy holds a certificate in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Foundation and Cornell University.

Billy's efforts raised over $6000 for animal organizations in 2013.

Training in 15 weeks, Billy ran the 2013 LA Marathon as a benefit for Farm Sanctuary.

Billy receives certificate of completion from the Commissioners for the Washoe County Engaged Leadership Academy, 2011.

Help us get the job done! We're counting on you to make sure these ordinances pass.

Puppy Mill Free Reno/Sparks/Washoe is NOT a 501(c)3 tax-deductible organization. We fully expect our work to be completed in the short-term.

Puppy Mill Free Reno/Sparks/Washoe mascot, Brooks, was adopted from the Nevada Humane Society at a PetSmart adoption Saturday event for $45.00, all shots and spay/neuter included.

Now nearly 7 years old, his veterinarian says he's the healthiest dog she sees.
