Local Help at Whole Foods

Whole Foods has an "Eating Healthy" program online and at some local stores. Here's Zack, the "Healhty Eating Specialist" at the Reno Whole Foods. He's usually got some kind of delish demo going. Last week he had a great oil-free hummus he made out of the Engine 2 Diet book with a little of his own flair thrown in. I especially liked the mushrooms sautéed in the chickpea soaking water and added to the blender. Delish! And so good for you. Next day he had a mango smoothie going.

Zack is available for tours to show new vegans (and anyone else, of course: gluten free, etc.) around the place. He's a local Reno guy and helpful in finding where the deals are, which is the only way to shop at Whole Paycheck. Find the deals and buy them in bulk.

If you are new to being vegan or to Whole Foods, or both, definitely look him up!

The many reasons to just go for it and start a full-on, plant-based diet right away.
Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the truth, for being correct, for being you.

Never apologize for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you're right and you know it, speak your mind. Speak your mind. Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth.

This trend isn't going away, so you might as well jump on board. And you'll get healthier.

Rooney Mara celebrated her new film, "Ain't Them Bodies Saints," with a vegan dinner at the Sundance Film Festival. Other vegan A-listers such as Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain will be offered a vegan option at the upcoming Academy Awards. Vegan chefs have infiltrated reality TV with Cloe Coscarelli and Josh Rosen taking home top honors on Food Network's Cupcake Wars and Sweet Genius, respectively. Even fashion is getting game: the first all-vegan solo show debuted at New York's fall Fashion Week this year.

But you don't have to go all the way to be a vegan star, says Kris Carr, author of the new book Crazy Sexy Kitchen: 150 Plant-Empowered Recipes to Ignite a Mouthwatering Revolution.

"You don't have to become a vegan. You can become a plant-passionate, plant-inspired bean lover!" Carr says with a laugh. "You don't have to label yourself at all. Just eat more plants. Eat less animals, less saturated fat, less growth hormones, less GMO, less chemicals and you'll be fine."

Great, where to begin? For Carr, it was an emotional but empowering journey. Ten years ago this past Valentine's Day, while her peers were no doubt getting roses and chocolates, the bubbly, fun-loving 31-year-old model and actress got a shocking diagnosis: a rare form of cancer—Stage IV. More…

I decided to see "Why do I have to be dependent on eggs…?" So I tried a 30 day trial without any eggs and I realized I didn't really want to eat them anymore. They're kind of like liquid meat.

Now that I'm in the state I'm in, just having a sip of milk, it kind of grosses me out. It tastes like animal mucus… the texture of it freaks me out now… the same with eggs… it just doesn't even feel right anymore.

A Guide to Eating a Plant-Based Diet

Zen Habits is one of the most visited blogs on the Internet with 250,000 subscribers.
If I could make a single dietary recommendation to people looking to get healthier, it would be to move to a plant-based diet. Eating plants has been the best change I've made in my diet—and I've made a bunch of them, from intermittent fasting to low-carb experiments to eating 6 meals a day to eating almost all protein to eliminating sugar (all at various times).

Plants have made me slimmer, healthier, stronger, more energetic—and have increased my life expectancy (more on all this below). Of course, the diet is simple, but moving away from the Standard American Diet to a plant-based one isn't always so simple for most people. Changing your diet can be difficult, but in this guide I'll share a bit about how to change, talk a bit about why, and what you might eat.

There's a better way to eat, there's a better way to live and it's called "Engine 2" where we're going to eat plant-strong for the next four weeks and show you--and give you--all the skills you need to do this and make it easy and doable.
