The production of fatty liver for foie gras… raises serious animal welfare issues and it is not a practice that is condoned by FAO.

The state of California and seventeen countries have outlawed this barbarous practice. Washoe County has proven itself a friend to animals time-and-time again. Here's another opportunity to do what's right.
-
Betty Albright, Reno
I would never support this horrific, cruel, and inhumane practice or any business that offers this. I can't begin to fathom how good foie gras could possibly taste when it comes at such a tortuous expense.

As a Washoe County citizen and Nevada hunter, I will not support the sale, production and consumption of Foie Gras. To torture and abuse any animal is wrong and against the law. Therefore, why does this cruel and inhumane practice still exist in our State?

As a Nevada native I know we have residents who are compassionate and care about the mistreatment of animals. I am calling on our elected officials to end this horrific, cruel, inhumane treatment of ducks and geese by prohibiting the production and selling of Foie Gras.

The greatness of a nation can be judged by how we treat our animals. This is an obvious form of torture and it must stop.
-
Crissi Kendall, Reno

Stop this heartbreaking and cruel practice! Animal cruelty is not entertainment and certainly not of any culinary art. Wake up your humanity!
-
Thomas and Mary Cannon, Reno
Inhumane and Cruelty to ducks and geese. If these are the ingredients to a gourmet plate- Bon Appetit!
-
Cheryl Lafferty, Incline Village
This needs to stop!! These ducks and geese have metal tubes shoved down their throats then force fed! PETA has been fighting this for decades and they even have a faux recipe on their website.
-
Susan McClain, Reno
I did not know what Foie Gras was, and upon reading about it, I find this disgusting. How can one being force it's will upon another.!If this was done to a human, there would be abuse declared. I say this is abuse of the worst kind, to one that cannot speak for itself.
-
Janice Porter-Moffitt, Reno
A most unnecessary way for people to make a living. Stop terrorizing animals.
-
Blanca Rodriguez, Sun Valley
Force feeding is extremely cruel.
-
Margie Rick, Reno
There is absolutely no need for this food. It is a cruel luxury item whose time has come and gone. Please ban fois gras here in Washoe County.
-
Susan Martin, Reno
This is such inhumane treatment and so unnecessary!! We did not need to cause such abuse to geese. It is important that this be abolished.
-
Saskia C. McAbee, Reno
I had no idea this was going on. Ducks are loving, social animals and deserve to live freely. Please stop the cruelty.
-
Richard, Sparks
Please STOP for-profit TORTURE of ducks, geese and other powerless animals and children. It's EVIL BARBARIC & UNNECESSARY.
-
Patty beardsley, Carson City
There are certainly other ways to eat without abusing animals.
WHO ARE WE? WHAT HAVE WE BECOME!?
-
Nelia Anisio, Reno
It's just awful that Circus Circus Casino has agreed to host the foie gras distasting event that is being promoted by Chez Louie and was initially intended to take place at the Nevada Museum of Art, but was recently cancelled due to activist pressure.
Gavage is cruel and inhumane treatment of animals; these birds livers swollen to several times their normal size, impaired liver function, over expand their abdomen making it difficult for the birds to walk, and death follows if the gavage continues. The gavage-based foie gras production takes place for 12 18 days before slaughter. Stuffing more food than a goose/duck can ingest down their gullets with a metal pipe throughout 12 18 days can hardly be perceived as humane. Can you imagine the amount of stress toxins these animals release in their bodies before their die? Who would want to eat such a thing?! Gavage is basically 12 18 days of incessant torturing!
-
Amanda white, Reno
Foie gras is so incredibly cruel and we need to join other cities and states to ban it! This barbaric practice should not be allowed and should not be supported by our fair city.
-
Mary long, Reno
I ask that you not perpetuate the cruelty involved in the production of foie gras by permitting the tasting on February the 15th. Could you please persuade Chez Lois serve an alternate item for the sake of humane treatment of animals? Did you know that for the last two weeks of the ducks' or geese lives a steel tube is shoved down their throat and they are force fed fatty food? Thank you, Mary
-
Joanne Bolander, Reno
Its a shame that this happens! I would starve before I took a job torturing any living thing!
-
Paul Heller, Reno
After viewing a TEDTalk on the process of producing top line foie gras, I find it abhorrent. I hope the museum revisits the decision to host this event, as doing so is tacit approval of the process.
-
Susan Hughes, Incline Village
Foie Gras production is inhumane and the product has no place in our community
-
Corinna Hasbach, Reno
Please show compassion and stop torturing living creatures.
-
Jodi Patterson, Sparks
Foie gras is a terrible by product of force feeding ducks to get a fatty liver for people to eat. This causes pain, anxiety, and suffering for the animals while they are still alive. Doing this to any living creature is a blatant show of disrespect, malice and uncaring for another creature's life.
I hope you will reconsider having this event at The Nevada Museum of Art. It is disgusting.
-
Juliana Harris, Reno
Foie Gras should be banned in Washoe County. Foie gras (French for fatty liver ) is the product of extreme animal cruelty. Factory farms produce it by force feeding ducks so much that their livers become diseased and enlarged. This causes a tremendous amount of suffering and can make it difficult for the birds to walk and breathe normally.
-
Donald Molde, Reno
Please do the right thing and cancel this event
-
Carol Criddle, Sparks
This is an inhumane practice and not art. It is nothing to be celebrated.
-
Ray Arjo, Sparks
STOP DUCK TORTURE CONCENTRATION FACTORIES.
-
Molly Kingston, Incline Village
Please consider banning a product and a practice that has long caused agony and suffering and is entirely unnecessary. Let's show we care in Washoe County!!
-
Monica Quinones, Incline Village
Any sane person who knows the truth behind Foie Gras production would not only be appalled but against it.
-
Loni Phariss, Sparks
This is an unneccessary, unacceptable, and horrific act. Please help end this animal cruelty. Every person can help.
-
Richard Smith, Sparks
Please STOP TORTURE of Beautiful birds for nothing but CANCER & Heart Attack. You believe in FREE Enterprise, then legalize CRACK, NOT animal-child torture.
-
Timothy Miller, Reno
Everything about foie gras is disgusting and abhorrent to me. The torturing of ducks and geese to produce this muck and the fact that people would actually consume this unhealthy so-called "delicacy" are truly disgusting and must be banned.
-
Doris Howard, Reno
Sickening both in the production and to consume. Put an end to this more than unpleasant practice.

This is animal cruelty. Plain & simple. No animal and no human being would want a huge tube shoved down its throat, force fed until the liver cannot take anymore and then killed in an even more barbaric way. If you do not see that this IS animal cruelty at its finest, than you are truly sick.
-
Lisa Fredley, Dayton
Stop this horrible practice and keep it out of Nevada. This is animal cruelty!!!!
-
Debbie Burwell, Carson City
Why would a human want this as a food product? This is one of the most inhumane things I have ever seen.
-

I won't come to Reno for shopping, events or anything if this is Reno's dirty little secret. SHAME ON THE BIGGEST LITTLE CITY. YOUR CRUELTY IS BIGGER THAN YOUR CITY!!
-
Theresa Martin, Carson City
Supporting humane treatment for all animals.
-
Esta Lewin, South Lake Tahoe
I visit Reno regularly. I am appalled that the Museum is sponsoring an event that condones and, indeed, promotes foie gras. Foie gras is a product of egregious cruelty. It should not be glorified as a delicacy. In fact, it has been outlawed in the state of California and other states. Please cancel this event.
-
Sherry Guzzi, Tahoe City, CA
Many of our group [Sierra Wildlife Coalition] live in Washoe County, and we are all appalled that anyone (much less the Art Museum) would consider hosting an event that by definition involves cruelty.
-
Debra Ross, Gardnerville
Stop this cruelty in our state.....
-
Jana Menard, South Lake Tahoe
Foie Gras, hiding under the veil of French "haute cuisine", is nothing more than the inflated and diseased organ of a tortured duck. Mire Poix should be ashamed to serve such an item, and the museum should not allow their name to be associated with the "tasting".
-
sophiea de colleen, Dayton
Please stop the pain on animals.
-
Nicole Dufour, Garderville
Torture of any living creature is unacceptable
-
Annoula Wylderich, Las Vegas
Foie gras comes at the expense of birds who suffer tremendously and are deprived of any possible modicum of compassion; they must pay a high price for a momentary taste on someone's lips. This atrocity has been banned in at least 15 other countries. Let's show our humanity, already.

This is cruel what they do to the ducks. The people are heartless who are doin this. If they like duck then they can stuff it when its not livin.
-
thomas bohrman, West Hollywood, California
it's outrageous and tears at my heartstrings, and it's something i don't understand. i can't bear to watch the process, but my mind's eye likens it to some horror movie. i wonder if we took a human being and shoved a tube down their throat, what kind of reaction it would cause both from the individual and the public.
-
Jodie Wiederkehr, Chicago, IL
The production of foie gras is nothing short of pure torture.
Shoving pipes down the throats of sentient beings and depositing mass amounts of food to enlarge their stomachs is anything but humane.
Foie gras is not a delicacy. It's a diseased body part.
-
James Devereux, Chicago, IL
Foie Gras is cruel! Stop this practice!
-
Marcia Dinges, sawyer, MI
I just can't believe this actually happens what kind of cruel animals are we on this planet?
-
jo lumsden, tucson, AZ
Leave the poor birds alone. No one needs to eat something that is abusive to birds or animals, forget the foie gras, this is a rather new century and everyone needs to evolve, and this is a good way to start.
-
Karen Russell, Crestview, FL
People love to cause misery except to themselves. Stop this heartless stuff.
-
Monica Odgers, Hartford, WI
Humans are called to be stewards, compassionate caregivers & protectors of earth and its animals. Helping not harming. To create an environment where all sentient beings are treated with compassion and respect. Never to die needlessly or cruelly. These vulnerable, innocent beings have the right to live cruelty-free in peace.
-
Aubrey Shaffer, Vista, CA

Animals for food are a creation, blessing, and mercy from GOD. And HE has granted them the inalienable rights to be raised and slaughtered humanely. Foie gras can only be produced through the use of cruelty and brutality.

-
Barbara Reale, Hamilton, CANADA
It is difficult and horrifying that these practices continue. Stop the cruelty.
-
Diane Fraleigh , Toronto, CANADA
This is one of the most cruel, imhumane practices against an animal. It is absolutely barbaric that this practice is legal. How this torture by humans against defenceless animals can be allowed to continue says something about our society, and it's not good.
-
Kathy Rezansoff , British Columbia
I find it deplorable that someone would think it okay to hold such an event. Do they not know fois gras is cruel and inhumane? Probably, but they just don't care, and that's worse.
