Califauna collects literature written about animals found in California and explores the relationship between humans and animals. From Native American stories and explorers' accounts to fiction and poetry by established and emerging writers, the collection attempts to give a balanced view of California's animal life and the range of cultural interpretations. The book is uniquely arranged alphabetically by the common name of the animal discussed in each piece. Each animal is introduced with a 'field note', with technical information about the animal--- size, habitat, etc.
